New York Secretary of State Supports MMA

Earlier today, New York Secretary of State, Lorraine Cortes-Vazquez, wrote an article in the Times Union about how she approves of legalizing MMA in New York.
Governor David Paterson said earlier this month that legalizing the sport was part of his plan in closing the state’s budget deficit. Ms. Cortes-Vazquez’s article was in support of this decision:
Based on our experience regulating professional boxing in New York and on conversations with top regulators from more than a dozen other states that regulate MMA, I believe this sport, when properly regulated, will provide New Yorkers with financial and sports entertainment value while maintaining high standards regarding the safety and health of participants.
The governor has made the right decision in his effort to bring MMA to New York.

UFC Event Live on SpikeTV July 19th
Hey guys Chad here and I will be helping out with updating UFCscene with the latest news from the UFC.
So here we go I want to start off with the announcement of a special UFC broadcast on SpikeTV.

They are making this special broadcast on July 19th in which is the same night as the Affliction event. What could be better then a cable broadcasted event that you can watch and not have to spend $39.95? I know that not spending $39.95 just for an event is fine with but the UFC still makes it better. They are making it better by showcasing Anderson “The Spider” Silva’s debut at light heavyweight versus James “The Sandman” Irvin. I believe that this will be Anderson Silva’s first fight at 205 but I’m not sure. It should be hard for Anderson Silva to put on the twenty pounds that he needs but I think he may be even more dangerous at this weight class because he will be faster then most light heavyweights. With Silva’s superb striking and great BJJ I think he may make his way to the top of this division also. Now Irvin is not your typical light heavyweight though he is one of the more high paced kinds of light heavyweights that fight at a fast tempo. Irvin would be one of the UFC’s top light heavyweights if he didn’t injure his knee against Thiago Silva. I think this will be a stand up war between both men but the only way I can see Irvin having a chance at winning this fight is that he catches Silva off guard with a lucky shot. With Anderson Silva being one of the best pound for pound fighters today I don’t think that will happen.
The only other fights they a have for this event are:
Anthony Johnson (4-1-0) vs. Kevin Burns (7-1-0) at 170lbs.
Hermes Franca (19-5-0) vs. Frank Edgar (7-0-0) at 155lbs.
I will post the other fights when they are announced.

UFC today announced during the UFC 82: “Pride of a Champion” pre-fight press conference that Anheuser-Busch will become the exclusive beer sponsor of the UFC and WEC, beginning with UFC 84: “Ill Will” on Saturday, May 24. Anheuser-Busch makes Budweiser and Bud Light beer, has been a major sponsor in boxing for many years.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (Feb. 28, 2008) – This spring, millions of Ultimate Fighting Championship® fans will see a new heavyweight take the center of the Octagon™. Today Anheuser-Busch and UFC® announced that Bud Light, the world’s best-selling beer, will become the new exclusive beer sponsor for the UFC.
Bud Light’s three-year deal with Zuffa, LLC, owner of the UFC brand, makes the American-style light lager with superior drinkability the exclusive beer sponsor of the UFC – the world’s premier mixed martial arts organization.

“Landing Anheuser-Busch and Bud Light is huge for us, our fighters and especially our fans. We’ve got the number one selling beer in the world and one of the top marketers in all of sports as our sponsor. If our TV ratings, pay-per-view buys and venue sell-outs weren’t enough, this definitely cements UFC as a major player in sports business.”
