UFC 78: “Validation” results, Play-by-Play coverage and winners LIVE tonight!

UFCscene.com will be bringing you LIVE play-by-play coverage of the televised portion of UFC 78: “Validation” which takes place tonight at The Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. starting at 10 p.m. ET.

10:00: UFC 78: “Validation” starts.
10:14: “Ladies and Gentlemen we are Live!” – Ring Announcer Bruce Buffer
Fight: Frank Edgar vs. Spencer Fisher
Round 1:
They feel each other out for a moment then Edgar gets the take down, Fisher gets up but is taken down again, Edgar fails to cause much damage in Fisher’s guard. Fisher gets up and eats a knee on the way to his feet and Edgar quickly takes him down again. Edgar gets in a few shots from the guard and the round ends.

Round 2:
Edgar gets another quick take down, works to side control… but Fisher gets up, Edgar quickly takes Fisher back down again and he works for position and gets in some strikes but is not doing much damage to Fisher. Edgar briefly gets Fisher’s back but Fisher gets back to guard.

Round 3:
Edgar yet again gets another quick take down, and it’s back to guard, Edgar gets Fisher’s back, then Fisher escapes to his feet where he is quickly taken down again. Fisher walks up the fence but they clinch and he is quickly taken down again. More of nothing in the guard, Fisher gets up and is quickly pulled down again, the fight ends in with Edgar getting in a few strikes as Fisher tried to get up. Very boring fight.

Judges have it (30-27, 30-27 & 30-26)

Fight: Joe Doerksen vs. Ed Herman
Round 1:
They throw a few strikes and Doerksen goes for a take down that Herman stuffs, they clinch and it’s Herman that gets the take down, Doerksen gets to his feet they clinch then trade. Doerksen is cut and is taken down, Herman in Doerksen’s guard getting in some nice blows. They work for positions (Doerksen’s eye lid is badly cut) Herman works some G&P and the round comes to a end.

Round 2:
They trade a bit then Doerksen is taken down, not much happens and the Ref. stands it up. Doerksen has Herman’s back, Herman reverses and gets Doerksen’s back but Doerksen then is able to get Herman’s leg. Herman’s now got Doerksen’s back & it’s back to guard where Doerksen nearly subs Herman by armbar.

Round 3:
Herman quickly KO’s Doerksen very early in the third round.

Fight: Ryo Chonan vs. Karo Parisyan
Round 1:
Parisyan lands a shot and gets a take down, Parisyan has half guard but Chonan gets back to full guard. Not much happens and the Ref. Stands it up. Parisyan gets Chonan against the fence then gets a big slam take down, Chonan is quickly able to get back up, Parisyan catches a leg kick and gets another take down. Not much happens and Chonan gets to his feet, they clinch against the fence and the round ends.

Round 2:
They lightly trade on the feet, Parisyan tries to clinch a few times and get’s a take down after catching another kick, Chonan quickly gets up, and again gets the take down, Chonan grabs Parisyan’s leg and gets up, they clinch and Chonan is again taken down. Not much on the ground Parisyan gets in a few strikes and the round ends.

Round 3:
Chonan takes a hit to the cup it’s stopped for a second and then Chonan says he’s ok and it continues. Back to the clinch Parisyan gets Chonan down and is able to get mount but Chonan rolls to the top and in the scrabble Parisyan gets up. Chonan fails with a spinning back fist and takes a punch from Parisyan. Both guys are slowing down and the crowd seems to be asleep, Parisyan coasts to victory. Another boring fight.

11:37: Poll now stands at Rashad Evans (55%) to win, Michael Bisping (45%).
Fight: Thiago Silva vs. Houston Alexander
Round 1:
Alexander clinches with Silva and the Ref. Quickly separates them, they clinch and Silva gets taken down, Alexander goes for a guillotine, Silva gets mount and unloads on Alexander. The Ref. Stops the fight. Rogan claims Alexander was briefly KO’d.
Final Result:
Silva via TKO (Strikes)

12:03: Poll still stands at Rashad Evans (55%) to win, Michael Bisping (45%).
MAIN EVENT
Fight: Michael Bisping vs. Rashad Evans
Round 1:
They exchange blows and Evans quickly goes for a take down, Bisping makes Evans work for it but Evans gets him down, Bisping quickly gets back up they clinch the Ref. breaks it up, Evans clinches again looking for the take down, they break but Evans quickly gets a take down & moves into side control. Bisping explodes to his feet and it’s back to the clinch. Evans takes Bisping down again and works for position. Thats where the round ends.

Round 2:
Evans picks up Bisping and scores a huge slam. Evans in Bisping’s guard does little and the Ref. Stands it up. They trade jabs, Bisping tries a high kick, they jab some more, Evans is looking gassed and goes for a take down against the fence, Bisping stuffs it, they jab a bit and Bisping gets a take down at the end of the round.

Round 3:
They jab a bit on the feet, Evans shoots for a take down and gets it, Bisping revereses and gets Evans back but Evans quickly escapes, they circle through a few punches, Evans again shoots and gets the take down, Bisping escapes to his feet, body kick for Bisping, they clinch, scramble, circle and really don’t do much, as the clock runs out Evans gets a take down.

Fight: Joe Lauzon vs. Jason Reinhardt
Round 1:
Reinhardt comes out with some very sloppy punches and a very sharp looking Lauzon gets a quick take down & takes Reinhardt’s back where forces a tap to a rear naked choke.
Final Result:
Lauzon via Submission (R.N.C.)

Lovely play by play. I’m just coming back from the event right now. It was a great expereience have few decent pictures — will post them tomorrow.
